Cetek Names Barry Berkowitz, Ph.D. Marlborough, MA, Dec. 12, 2005 — Cetek Corporation announced today that it has named Dr. Barry A. Berkowitz to the position of President and Chief Executive Officer. Dr. Berkowitz has had an extensive and successful career in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries as an executive in drug discovery and development and as an entrepreneur. Dr. Berkowitz succeeds President James N. Little, Ph.D., who becomes Senior Vice President, Business Development. "Dr. Berkowitz, who brings to Cetek a wealth of experience and an outstanding record of success in leading drug discovery and development organizations, is ideally suited to guide the company through its next stage of growth," said James L. Waters, Chairman of Cetek's Board of Directors and a company founder. Dr. Berkowitz's industry career spans 30 years. He founded and led several companies including: New Chemical Entities, Inc. (NCE), which was sold to Albany Molecular Research, Inc. (AMRI) in 2001; ChemGenics Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (formerly Myco Pharmaceuticals, Inc.), which was acquired by Millennium Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ: MLNM) in 1997; Magainin Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (currently known as Genaera Corporation NASDAQ: GENR). Additionally, Dr. Berkowitz has held executive research and development positions at SmithKline & French (now GlaxoSmithKline) and senior research positions at the Roche Institute of Molecular Biology. Most recently, he was President and CEO of Scion Pharmaceuticals. Dr. Berkowitz is an author on more than 100 scientific publications and is a co-inventor on a number of U.S. patents. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree at Northeastern University in Pharmacy and received his Ph.D. in pharmacology from the University of California, San Francisco.
