Cetek Names Gerhard Sperl, Ph.D. Marlborough, MA, February 6, 2006 — Cetek Corporation announced today that Gerhard Sperl, Ph.D., has joined the company in the newly created position of Vice President of Medicinal Chemistry. Dr. Sperl has over 13 years of industry experience in drug discovery and development at Cell Pathways, ArQule and most recently at Point Therapeutics, where he served as Vice President of Chemistry and Manufacturing controls. "Gerhard, brings outstanding chemistry and drug development credentials to Cetek that strengthen and expand our capabilities a variety of areas that will be critical in the coming years both to our drug discovery services business and our proprietary programs in cancer and anti-infectives," said Barry Berkowitz, Ph.D., President and CEO of Cetek. "His appointment is a further step in building an integrated drug discovery and development company. " Dr. Sperl's expertise includes lead discovery and optimization in cancer and other therapeutic areas, preclinical and formulation development, IND enabling drug development activities, and commercial scale API and formulation manufacture. He is an inventor on 23 issued and 6 pending patents. Prior to Point Therapeutics, he served as Director of Preclinical Development at Arqule. Previously, he held a variety of research and research management positions at Cell Pathways, most recently Senior Director of the Chemistry and Screening Group. Dr. Sperl earned his B.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Chemistry from the University of Regensburg (Germany).
